So, for my first post on my new blog, I thought I'd start with something somewhat personal to me. I recently did a 23andMe test, and found out that I actually have Irish blood in me. Okay, standard white people ancestry, not that crazy. But I started digging deeper, and I actually found out that my ancestors didn't live in Ireland. Apparently, they actually lived in a completely independent kingdom in northern Ireland. That was about all I could gather from the DNA test, so I decided to look through old family documents and such. As it turns out, there was a kingdom called The Kingdom of Polybius located in Northern Ireland from the years 900 to 903! The kingdom considered itself a sovereign state and was fully self sufficient. Where my family came into it, it seems like my great x40 grandfather was actually a knight of the kingdom! While this might not seem like such a big deal, I was just shocked at how little information I could find about the kingdom online. All I got from googling it was stuff about that weird arcade game, the character from Oedipus Rex, and some weirdo on Reddit. Anyways, I'll post more information + some pictures next time.
